  • Augmented reality, a partnership between the physical and the virtual

Augmented reality is a fascinating technology that allows us to add elements of virtual content to our physical space, interacting with them as if they existed with us in real life. We experience two realities side by side and in perfect harmony: the physical and the created. A kind of visual coalescence the result of which is scenarios that only previously existed in the imagination, and which now set up exciting experiences.

The most popular known example of augmented reality was the Pokemon Go application. It seemingly led to half the population walking the streets in pursuit of digital characters and which converted ordinary spaces into stages for the interactive game, a technological phenomenon that became a successful social one opening doors to all kinds of applications.

The video game was just the tip of the iceberg. Since then, augmented reality has become a tool that will improve disciplines such as architecture, medicine and education.

    • Building a more sustainable city with the help of Magic Leap glasses

We at ACCIONA wanted to make use of the possibilities offered by augmented reality, creating, with the help of Magic Leap glasses, a new space which can improve the future that awaits us. How? By designing a similar world to the one we live in, but enriched by virtual solutions that make it a more sustainable and habitable place.

The key is not only in these solutions, but in that, with augmented reality, it is you who can introduce them and experiment in first person with the magic of designing a better model city in which to live. Below, we explain how the augmented reality project works.

    • In this reality, everything is in our hands, just like in the real world.

  • The Magic Leap augmented reality headset is a device made up of sensors and vision glasses, a processor and battery which the user belts on and, through a control, can interact with previously designed virtual software elements. Magic Leap is interesting in that the glasses can recognize the exact dimensions of the space in which we find ourselves and place digital elements with exact definition, as if they were actually there. This is the magic of augmented reality.

The human race is facing a series of challenges such as urban concentration, water scarcity and climate change, but we can tackle these and between us all build a more sustainable city. ACCIONA’s experience with Magic Leap allows us to travel through a virtual city full of all these problems and give the user the opportunity to resolve them thanks to augmented reality. In this reality, everything is in our hands, just like in the real world. A virtual metaphor that helps us understand that every one of us can and should be part of the change the planet needs. These are the problems, and these are the solutions.

    • Problem: water scarcity and pollution

Water scarcity is a problem that affects over 40% of the world population. In this virtual city, there is a shortage of water supply. But there are many things we can do. Shall we solve the problem?

    • Solution: sustainable water treatment and management

This augmented reality experience allows you to activate water treatment plants to avoid the pollution of rivers and seas, and to design a desalination plant to supply the city with water fit for human consumption. We at ACCIONA work to ensure access to clean water and sustainable management.

    • Problem: growing electricity demand

Cities need electricity, but its production is the cause of 60% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. In our city, the power station producing the electricity we need is polluting the air. Shall we solve the problem?

    • Solution: 100 % renewable and clean electricity

With our augmented reality, you can deploy renewable energy systems to generate the city’s electricity without polluting the air, tackle climate change and reduce respiratory diseases. We at ACCIONA work to ensure access to clean, 100%-renewable electricity.

    • Problem: poor transport links between regions

Over half of the global population live in cities, so it is essential that we build sustainable infrastructure to facilitate development and communication between localities. Many rural areas do not have rapid, viable access to our virtual city. Shall we solve the problem?

    • Solution: transport infrastructure

With our augmented reality experience, you can build a road, bridge or tunnel to connect urban with rural areas and develop better communication links between them. We at ACCIONA work to ensure access to resilient, sustainable infrastructure that facilitates mobility and transport.

    • Problem: concentration in towns and cities

Over half of the world population lives in cities, for which good urban planning and mobility is fundamental. We have clear traffic congestion and pollution problems, which make living in cities difficult. Shall we solve the problem?

    • Solution: sustainable mobility and services for cities

In our virtual city, you can set up a more efficient and sustainable transport system, including shared electric mopeds or tramways. We at ACCIONA offer a broad range of services for guaranteeing prosperous, sustainable city living.

  • WE WANT YOUR OPINION

Would you like to live in more sustainable city?

Thanks for answering our questionnaire ( votaciones)
    • 0 Of course we can build more sustainable cities!
    • 0 I think my city is great, I don’t want to change anything

      • Pardon the pun but this is without doubt the necessary next dimension. Most of us are to some degree impaired by a two- dimensional imagination. Think colour-vision /3 dimension visual rectification ...exciting
